GRAVITATION
Joint Paintings Exhibition

On Tuesday 4 December 2007 private view of an exhibition by painter and sculptor Richard Kočí took place in Praha City Cetner Building. The exhibition was opened by original music performance by vocal quartet Yellow Sisters.

Author’s words about the exhibition: The title, Gravitation, is meant as a metaphor for an invisible force that pulls us in one given direction towards the unknown. It steers you in the direction of your dreams, however vague the path may seem. Gravitation, in my case, also means return to painting. In mid eighties I interrupted my sculpture activities and started to paint. I painted for almost thirteen years and then took up sculpture again, almost exclusively.

The first paintings I did after coming back to paint, did not satisfy me, because they seemed as a mere projection of my three-dimensional work onto paper. I wanted to release myself from volume and shape. Two years ago I moved my studio out in the country. Perhaps it might have influenced me in some ways, because I now paint landscapes. In these paintings I pretend to capture the raw beauty of nature, without loosing its charm. I try to join the classical painting with the modern time I live in. I try to find the simple things with ties to something more. I strive to capture some of the mystery and meaning.

I think this show is interesting to a viewer, because it offers variety. It includes paintings and graphics from the last twenty years, though by no means does it pretend to be a retrospective. Just a selection of works from different periods of my life.

The works in the exhibition are for sale. It continues until 31 January 2008, and can be visited by the public on weekdays from 10:00 to 17:00 on the 1st floor.
